Booked in? · what to expect
What to do on the day we install your insulation.
On install day we need access for the truck (within about 40m), two power points, and someone to point out the downlights and exhaust fans. You don’t have to stay once we’ve started, and you only pay when the job’s done and you’re happy.
Thanks for booking in. Here’s the rundown of what happens on the day, and the few simple things you can do to make it easy, so your job goes off without a hitch and we leave your place a Comfort Zone home.
Availability: a hand at the start helps
We like you to be home when the installer arrives, unless you've arranged the details with us beforehand. We'll normally ask you to show us where any downlights or exhaust fans are, because one of us usually needs a quick look at the ceilings in every room to double-check the number of shrouds we take up into the roof.
Once we've started, you're welcome to head off if you like, just confirm the payment arrangements and how to lock up if you won't be home when we finish.
Truck access
Our truck is a little Pan-tech (think bread truck) and we carry about 40 metres of hose, so we need to get within 40m of the furthest point of the house that needs insulating. The truck is 3.3m high and about 2.4m wide, so if you've got branches overhanging the driveway, it's worth clearing the way for good access.
Power
On the day we need direct access to two power points on the same circuit, as close to the driveway as possible (sometimes just one). If you won't be home, it's really important to let us know where the external power points are, whether in the power box, or near a pool pump or spa out the back.
The machine draws a fair bit of power. If you leave a lead out under the garage door, make sure it isn't plugged into an adaptor or power board inside, as those usually trip on the load.
Ceiling access: through the roof if we can
Every roof is different and the weather affects how we get in, but our preference is to go in through the roof when it's safe to do so. On most tile or iron roofs that's just removing two tiles or lifting a sheet. We prefer it because it lets a lot of heat out and light in.
Going in through the roof also lets us spot potential leaks and give you a roof-inspection report while we're up there, and it saves dragging hoses or batts through your home to the manhole.

Weather
On the rare occasion we may need to postpone for rain, wind or heat, but in most cases we can still do the job through the manhole. Rain can hold us up on the job before yours, so if you’re booked for the afternoon and we’re running late, the team will call you. If we genuinely can’t do it on the day, we make your job a priority for the next opportunity, even a Saturday.
Do you need to be home?
In most cases, no, provided we’ve got good truck access and external power points. The machine needs two power points on the same circuit. If you won’t be home you must let us know, and tell us about any fans or downlights in raked roof sections, because we can’t always see those from inside the roof.
Payment
Unless we’ve arranged otherwise, there’s no deposit on most jobs. When the work’s done and you’re happy, we get paid. Every completed job is photographed and the photos are checked before you’re invoiced, so if anything needs fixing it’s sorted first. Once it’s finished to our standard and you’re happy, we’ll email the invoice and payment is due then. Prompt payment is much appreciated.
5 things you can do to make the day easy
- 1Have the cars out of the driveway at your appointment time so we can back the truck straight in. Most average homes take about 2–4 hours (your quote has a better guide). We may also need your car out of the garage if we need manhole access.
- 2Give us direct access to two power points.
- 3Turn on your exhaust fans (fan only, not the heat lamps) and the range hood if it vents into the ceiling, ideally from first thing in the morning. It cools the roof space down for us and stops any insulation fibres settling through the fan while we work. Turn them off once we're done.
- 4A cold drink of water on a hot day is gold, and we go through a good litre at the end of every job. (A Friday beer is a kind thought, but we're driving, so we'll have to politely decline or take it with us.)
- 5If you're happy with the job, remind us before we leave to grab a quick 30-second recommendation video. They mean a lot to a family business, and we sometimes forget when we're hot and tired at the end of a job.
That just about covers it, and if a friend or neighbour wants theirs done at the same time, we can usually do a bit better on the price. Want the detail on the install itself? See how we install ceiling insulation, or get a quoteif you haven’t booked yet.
All went smoothly? A quick review (or that 30-sec video) means a lot.
A quick honest review genuinely helps a small family business, and helps the next person decide. Thank you.
