We’re a South East Queensland family business, and the Northern Rivers is right on our doorstep. The Tweed, Lismore, Ballina and Byron Bay are a short run south of the work we do every day around Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Scenic Rim, so crossing the border to do a Northern NSW roof is no trouble for us.
The coastal Northern Rivers shares the same warm-humid climate as the South East Queensland coast, so the insulation that suits a Gold Coast home suits a Tweed or Byron home too: a seamless, gap-free ceiling that slows the summer heat pouring down from the roof and polyester under a raised timber floor that won’t waterlog in the humidity. It’s the same job we’ve been doing since 1986. We just point the truck a little further south.
My sons Noah and Eli are part of it, and we’re building a family of franchise partners, other families with the same dedication, running their own businesses to our systems and standards, and the cellulose they pump in is made by us in Tiaro. The Northern Rivers climate
Climate zone 2, same as Brisbane — a 55–60°C roof cavity, about R2.7 needed.
The coastal Northern Rivers sits in NCC climate zone 2, the same warm-humid zone as Brisbane and the Gold Coast. On a hot afternoon your roof cavity can climb to 55–60°C and pour that heat straight down into your rooms, which is exactly what your air-con fights all day. A seamless blanket of ceiling insulation slows it right down.
Because it’s a mild coastal climate, you don’t need a big southern R-value. Most coastal homes here only need around R2.7 as a total roof system, which a seamless R3.0 cellulose ceiling reaches comfortably. The humidity is also why we put polyester, not cellulose, under a raised timber floor: it shrugs off moisture where a crawlspace would be wrong for cellulose. Inland and higher towns like Lismore get cooler winter nights, so good ceiling insulation earns its keep both ways: cooler in summer, warmer in winter.
What we bring across the border
- Your job is done by a Comfort Zone franchise partner, an owner-operator running their own family business to our systems and standards, not a cheap subbie or a hired labourer who moves on to the next job.
- A fixed price. We don't increase a quoted price once we've started the job.
- You keep the before-and-after photos of your roof. Every job is photographed and the photos are checked before you're invoiced, the same system on every job.
- We make the cellulose ourselves in Tiaro and bring it down, so you're dealing with the manufacturer, not a reseller.
- Fully insured: public liability and WorkCover.

Ceiling insulation, pumped-in cellulose
Our main job, and the biggest comfort upgrade for a Northern Rivers home: a seamless blanket of cellulose pumped into every corner of the ceiling, no gaps to leak heat.
Underfloor, polyester batts
Plenty of older Tweed and Lismore homes are up on stumps. Polyester is the right product under a timber floor in this humid coastal climate. It won't waterlog and isn't itchy to fit.
Soundproofing walls, between-floor cavities and home theatres
Quieten internal walls, between-floor cavities and home theatres with pumped cellulose and acoustic polyester.
Removal & ceiling vacuum
Old, sunken or pest-fouled insulation vacuumed out before we re-insulate, common in the older Lismore and Ballina housing stock.
Roofs others can't do
Raked, low-pitch, flat and Super-6 roofs that most batt companies say can't be done. We can.
Steel-frame homes need full-contact cellulose
Steel conducts heat straight through a batt edge. These roofs need full-contact cellulose pumped over the frame, done properly.
