Plant Fibre Roof insulation - why is it naturally better than insulation batts made from rocks
New Plant Based home insulation is the best insulation for any home owner who is looking for a ceiling or wall insulation solution. Plant fibres are naturally insulating and will protect your home in summer and winter without all the toxic effects associated with traditional fibre batt insulation products.
If you have been looking for an environmentally friendly home insulation to keep you cool in summer and warm in winter, then you have come to the right page. Our locally made environmentally friendly ceiling insulation is made from natural carbon capturing plant fibre and not Super heated spun rock fibre like many of the batt insulation products that ultimately damage the environment. If your home insulation cost more energy to make, ship and install than it saves you in real terms, it is bad for the environment. Many of the batt products just do not last long enough in the real world to pay back all the carbon produced in their production.
We take the natural Cellulose fibre material that makes up the bulk of the strength of trees and treat it with a naturally mined mineral fire retardant. Plant fibre insulation lasts forever in your ceiling and the fire retardant is also a natural insect killer, making it the only roof insulation that actually helps to stop ants, spiders, cockroaches and even rodents from living in your roof.
The fire retardant mineral is borax and it actually makes Cellulose fibre insulation more fire retardant than any other insulation. It is the only insulation that has been shown time and again to help protect your home and family in fire events. Extra time in a fire event for the fire brigade to get to your home before the roof collapses saves lives (watch our how this fire brigades burns down three houses with different insulation and see how much longer the natural plant fibre insulation gave for the occupants to get out than what traditional batt insulation)
In fact natural plant fibres when attacked by a flame produce black carbon and this is one of the best insulations known to man. It is actually the reason why people can walk on red hot fire coals. The surface temp of the carbon is quickly cooled by your feet but that same carbon then insulates your feet from absorbing more heat from the fire. (Don’t try this at home)
Reasons Why plant fibre insulation is the most environmentally friendly insulation product.
Our natural Plant fibre ceiling insulation uses 1/10 of the energy to make and it traps valuable carbon in the insulation for the life of your house. It never needs to be topped up or repaired as when it is properly installed it will out last your house. Even at the end of the life of your home, our plant fibre insulation can be removed 100% recycled put into another home.
Plant fibre cellulose insulation is made locally in relatively small production plants that keep the production near the supply of materials needed to make the product and the customers who consume it. Reduced transport means less fuel consumed and less carbon dioxide produced, making its carbon payback point a lot sooner.
Our plant fibre insulation is also made using no virgin fibres, All the fibre is recovered from local waste streams and up purposed into a valuable and 100% recycled plant fibre home insulation.
The plant fibre insulation is compressed into reusable bags for transport in order to reduce the carbon foot print of production, storage and transport. These bags are stacked and returned to the factory on a deposit system to ensure they are reused over and over again. Most of our insulation bags get reused more than 250 times and use less material to make than most single use bags that are wrapped around batt insulation that you buy from Bunnings. All the plastic that is used to wrap fibreglass batt insulation is just put in land fill after a single use.
Plant fibre insulation requires trained professional installers as it uses special equipment to get the right density for your home. Having trained Profesional installers to use the installation equipment means that at least you know the company has spent some time to make sure the staff know their job and can do it safely. Batt installers need no training as the company is only trusting them with a ladder and a stick to poke them in with. If you need no training to put the product in, then you probably get no training on how to safely work in a roof.
Plant fibre insulation was invented in Canada more than 100 years ago and it is such a good product that many of the houses insulated with it back then, are still benefiting from its naturally protective fibre. It will out last your house and so as long as the roof stays on the insulation will do its job and never break down. Have a look at what happens to batts after being in your roof for a while.
Plant fibre helps to remove carbon from the air as it grows witch means this insulation is literally helping to reduce the carbon footprint of your home even before it is installed. Then of course it will be saving carbon every day as you will use less power to heat and cool your home. This means that it will be putting real money in your pocket every day that you own your home, all while helping reduce your carbon footprint.
The best efficiency insulation is pumped in loose fill insulation as it gets a full coverage of your ceiling and does not miss any little gaps. Just 1% gaps in your insulation will reduce its effectiveness by upto 30% and that is why batts just can not be as effective as a pumped in product like our plant fibre Cellulose insulation.
One of the biggest losses in effectiveness of batt insulation is that air can easily flow thought them. This means that drafts up and down thought your ceiling can not be stopped by batt insulation as they let wall sockets and poorly fitted plaster leak away your money. The pumped in cellulose fibre insulation is what we call Dense pack and actually prevents airflow though the product and stops drafts. That makes it more efficient in even the most difficult installations. Also because it is pumped in we can retro fit cellulose to raked or exposed beam roofs without having to lift the whole roof.
The cellulose fibre is a much better sound insulation as well, it can even be installed above the height of the joists in your roof to give you that extra protection. This is even more relevant with a steel frame home as steel is a very good conductor of heat and vibration. So being able to pump above the steel frame means that we can insulate the frame itself and increase the effectiveness of the product.
I don’t know about you but on a hot day when I am walking bare foot, I am not looking for some rocks to stand on to cool my feet. Rock does not have any natural insulating ability and everyone knows it but for some reason they keep making ineffective batt insulation from spun rock fibre.
Stop the waste and support companies that only use quality Plant based insulation and help make your home a sanctuary for your family that does not hurt the planet.
